I never thought making friends would be difficult for me until I started staying in the hall of a foreign university. I used to be an outgoing and vocal girl in my home country, however, I found it is difficult to make new friends living in the hall due to the language barrier. During orientation week, everyone is chatting happily together except me. I found myself awkward sitting with them without saying a word. It was not because I did not want to talk, I had to think twice before saying it out due to the lack of English fluency, and the current topic usually ended at the time when I spoke up.
Things got worse after orientation. Hallmates like to eat, play, study together, without proper english proficiency, I often found myself, as a reticent person, neglected by the others.
